When tenders have been obtained in the Colony

from Chinese Contractors for the construction of the pro

posed works, should there be reason to apprehend that the

estimates will be exceeded, the preferable mode of pro -

cedure to adopt will be to quicken the curve at the

southern end of the main Breakwater, thus reducing the

length of that work, but at the same time decreasing the

sheltered area.

filing in our office here.

In conclusion we have much pleasure in acknow

ledging the assistance we have received from Mr. Boulton in

the consideration of this important question, and to thank

him for the local information he has so readily given at

the interviews we have had with him since his arrival
